OPTIMALISASI PERAN SUMBER DAYA MANUSIA DALAM PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH DI MASYARAKAT KOTA TANGERANG

Abstract

Waste management has become one of the environmental challenges that continues to increase along with population growth and rising community consumption activities. Improper waste management can cause various negative impacts on the environment and public health. Therefore, optimizing the role of human resources (HR) is necessary to support community-based waste management. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to improve the understanding and capacity of community human resources in waste management operations in Buaran Village, South Tangerang City. The implementation method used a participatory approach through socialization, education, interactive discussions, and community assistance activities. The results of the activity showed that the community had demonstrated awareness of waste management through waste bank activities, maggot cultivation, and the utilization of inorganic waste. However, several obstacles were still encountered, such as the suboptimal management of maggot cultivation, limited public knowledge regarding used cooking oil waste management, and low understanding of the economic value of plastic waste. In this activity, human resources played roles as implementers, managers, and agents of change in supporting community-based waste management. The optimization of human resources was carried out through improving technical skills, strengthening managerial capabilities, and providing continuous education to the community. This activity is expected to encourage the creation of a more effective, economically valuable, and sustainable waste management system in Buaran Village.
